Camou, Torres Jr, and Allen win Super Class titles at Sonoma Division 7 Race

Rich Camou, Val Torres Jr., and Scott Allen took home the “Super Class” titles at the Pacific Division’s fifth race of the NHRA-Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series held at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif. Camou won his first NHRA ‘Wally’ when his Toyo Tires, Lucas Oil, RDV Consulting-sponsored dragster stopped Bart Hiatt in the final round of Super Comp, 8.880 to a losing 8.858. Camou scored a .004 reaction time in the final. Val Torres Jr won the Top Sportsman title at the Fallon, Nevada LODRS event in June, and at this race he took home the Super Gas title driving the Val Torrs Construction ’98 Firebird. Torres defeated Mike Ferderer’s K&N Engineering ’95 Pontiac Grand Am in the final, 9.923 to a too quick 9.896. Val is currently 9th in the division’s Super Gas standings, with Ed Olpin in the lead and Val’s dad, Val Torres Sr., in second place. Click here for the complete story

Saturday, August 2, 2008 THACKER WINS AGAIN; WILLIAMS TAKES FUNNY CAR TITLE CORDOVA, Ill. – Marty Thacker and Kirk Williams took home big wins at this weekend’s NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Summer Showdown presented by Matco Tools. Thacker of Robinson, Ill., used a hole-shot along with a 5.438 second pass to take the win over Diana Harker in the Top Alcohol Dragster class. The win stretches Thacker’s lead in the NHRA North Central Division and may have locked up the division championship. Harker hurt the motor on the run but still ran a quicker 5.416 second pass at 260.31 mph. Click here for complete details
